The Willapa is known to be the cleanest bay in the country, and it is the oystermen who have kept it that way. The bay opens directly onto the Pacific yet it is well protected by a barrier beach twenty miles long that leaves only a small exit to the ocean. The bays long history of harvesting oysters began with the earliest indigenous inhabitants, members of the Willapa, Chinook, and Lower Chehalis tribes. This series is a tribute to the beautiful, pristine waters of the Willapa, highlighting an oyster fisherman and his pet seagull, Starfish, who follows him everywhere, as he does his work.
