In camera portrait of Angelina Jolie covered in bees shot for National Geographic to promote her Women for Bees initiative that will train and support female beekeepers around the world. As a longtime beekeeper myself, working with Angelina, my main concern was safety. We achieved the desired effect for the photo by using the same technique Avedon used 40 years ago to create his iconic portrait "The Beekeeper". We contacted the entomologist who formulated the pheromone (queen mandibular pheromone or QMP) for Avedon and we were able to use some of the actual pheromone from that shoot.
