Golden Brown portrays the identity of the Mixtec native people, both in the isolated mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico, and in the United States where, due to economic pressure, they have been forced to migrate. The title refers to the overcoming of racial discrimination that brown skin indigenous and migrant peoples have to face when being "the others", while holding on to valued traditions. It consists of photographs taken in the Mixtec Highlands in Mexico, the State of New York and the California Central Valley in the U.S., as well as the roads in between traveled by buses and trains.
