São Roque is a project about a community that works in São Roque Church and Museum in Lisbon, Portugal. Both spaces are connected and belong to the oldest social Institution in Lisbon, Santa Casa da Misericordia, their history is closely connected to the history of the city and its people. The baroque church is one of the most popular touristy sites famous for its chapels and reliquary. In this project I photographed the people that work in both spaces, in areas or situation that aren’t normally accessible to the public. The overwhelming scale and decoration of the church sometimes hides the people that daily work and give life to the space; in the portraits I am looking to show the more personal side and intimate scale in that relationship.
