As the world became disrupted with the start of Covid-19 pandemic, theatre engineer Elias Macke, Leipzig, Germany, decided to turn a period of social isolation and lost connections into the realisation of a fantasy project: the construction from scratch of a functioning submarine, the “Markus Heller”. The submarine has been successfully tested in a lake. Through restless construction, research, projecting, and testing, the “Markus Heller”, built uniquely for recreational and self-satisfactory reasons, is a wonder that makes the impossible possible, that brings megalomania into everyday life.
