The Dead Sea is shrinking by more than 1 meter per year. Nearly every water source feeding into the sea has been cut off, diverted or polluted. Cosmetics companies are removing water from the sea at a rate of 150 million cubic meters a year to get at lucrative minerals. It is an amazing place, one that I like to visit often and photograph. I am astounded every time I return, that I can physically see the withdraw of the shoreline. Most of the damage has occurred since the 1970s’. What of it’s future?
