To many of us, this man made light has always reassuringly been there but in a world of great uncertainty, can we be so sure of its presence or should we prepared for darker times to come?

Beneath the familiar and increasingly homogenous fabric of the urban landscape are other issues which should concern us. We should be thinking about where we have come to and where we might be heading - how we have managed to support our habit for such a long time without interruption, the pressure this places on our finite resources, the longer term contribution this has on global warming and how light pollution impacts on our health.
We are constantly reminded that we are passing through a long, period of security, certainty and economic prosperity but is this idea still sustainable?
