The Sophiapolder is a small island in the river Noord, a stone’s throw from the town of Dordrecht. For years, my aunt and her children had an old farm on this island. Every morning they would row across the river to take care of the animals. The life of this family on the Sophiapolder fascinated me. When I heard they had to leave the island to make way for newly designed nature, I started photographing life on the farm. It will make way for a fresh-water tidal marsh; the trees are cut down and the dike will be breached.
