The project "Winter Was Hard" is ongoing, having just finished a fifth year of shooting. Composed and lit, these baroque images are my visions of spring realized. They represent things remembered from experiences, dreams, and stories, full of potential and want and need and regret. The natural world as both setting and character. As I photograph within these branch-enclosed spaces, my goal is to distill the freshness of spring’s fleeting, powerful, metaphoric moments by visually invoking the essence of the air and it’s fragrance, the touch of petal and pollen, the warmth of light and the chill of shadow.
