The KKK hood (my head today, studio self shot) is always introduced in digital postproduction It isn't autobiographical: it's a work made from photographs of my life, immediately and easily accessible for me, used to construct a project. The hood (icon of racism) represents the cage where grows, year after year, racist people, it's a barrier that isolates the person in relation to an increasingly multicultural world, making himself executioner and victim at the same time. Inside the hood is no longer possible to understand the world, it's only possible to look in one direction, with view distorted and limited.
"In My Hood" is a work about racism, the title invokes the phrase "In my opinion".
These aren't pictures talking about racism according to the “reportage†method.
Instead, I wanted to work in a different way, starting from two themes: the family album and the use of the typical white hood of the Ku Klux Klan, world wide known as a symbol of racism.
The photos are taken from my family album and I am the baby hooded, but the work is not autobiographical: it's a work made from photographs of my life, immediately and easily accessible for me, used to construct a project.
The pictures I submitted are all digital photomontages, it's a part of a larger work, the KKK hood (my head today, self shot in studio, working on perspective, distance, focal length, light...) is always introduced in digital post production (working on size, color, texture...).
The hood represents the cage where grows, year after year, racist people, it's a barrier that isolates the person in relation to an increasingly multicultural world, making himself executioner and victim at the same time.
When we born, when we grow up in a family, at school, in the encounters we have, it grows in us an idea of the life, an idea about others people around the world.
If we receive wrong information from an early age, suggestions and stimuli, the racist idea grows in us, and with it, around our head and our heart, the racism.
From inside the hood is no longer possible to understand the world, from two small cracks our eyes can not see who is around us, we will look always only in one direction, with a view distorted and limited.
