Radio France is the largest radio station ever built in France. Situated in Paris, the building was conceived by the architect Henry Bernard between 1952 and 1963. Its headquarters count 2 hectares of surface and holds over 4300 collaborators. Radio France is the first radiophonic group in France ; with its seven national radios, it reaches over 13,3 millions of listeners on a daily basis. Through the photographs of this building, i tried to make “images of sound” that broadcast words like : “transmission”, “waves” and “frequencies”. Only this time, these words are broadcasted to the eyes and to the mind, not to the ears. For this reason, i used once again, the screen of my PC to display these photos and reshoot them out of it. The building itself evolves into an audio field while the architecture vanishes progressively into a transmission so that the transmitter becomes literally its own transmission. This is how to visually photograph a radio station in a radio way. The building is represented as lighten in the middle of the darkness, its glow soon invades the blackness. This representation refers to a period in my life when i had troubles sleeping alone in the total “paranoid” silence of a dark room. This was soon to be over as i quickly discovered the comfort of sleeping next to a radio player, while listening to the songs or the voice of the host on a very low volume all night long ; against my fears.
