My project reflect the experience of the cult of Saint Lazarus, the most venerated saint in Cuba. Saint Lazarus, invoked to heal health problems, is an amalgam of Christian saint and a Yoruba god worshiped for centuries by Afrocubans. Every year on Saint Lazarus’s Day (17 December), thousands of devotees from all over Cuba make a pilgrimage to the Santuario del Rincon, in Santiago de la Vega. I followed this pilgrimage where sick people and beggars make the journey on their knees, crawling, pulling large stones until they arrive to a catholic hermitage placed next to a hospital for persons suffering from leprosy.
