These bird’s-eye primrose were blooming along the cliff edges on Devils Island in Lake Superior. I wanted to put them into the context of their beautiful setting, and thus chose a 17mm tilt/shift lens. Even with that lenses extreme D.O.F., I needed to use stacked focus to extend it. I controlled the light in the foreground with a diffusion tent, which also was needed to keep the flowers from blowing around. I layered the different captures in Photoshop, masking to reveal the appropriate areas, and then balanced out the colors and values.
