How is intimacy earned when it’s lost? How do we rebuild our own patch of earth to bloom? We must hold it as fragile, something that can wilt, or shift towards another sunny spot. My garden was in someone else’s palm. I held the petals left behind, clinging to a fleeting scent of memory. This project is about my transition from a path of chaos to one of healing. I found myself in a space between worlds; a visitor to everything around me. I chose to thread those fractured parts of self back into my life.

Story

This project is about my transition from a path of chaos to one of healing. For the past decade, my life has been a blur of movement, as I have been running away from phantoms within. The healthy parts of my life that used to enrich it fell away. I found myself in a space between worlds: a visitor to everything around me, a stranger to my own life. I had never let people close to me. I wanted to change this.

After I broke up with my first girlfriend, I began to see that what I wanted was what I had, but just didn’t have the palms to clutch it. So, I did what was necessary to insure I would eventually be able to hold intimacy the way it was made to be held. I took the route that curved back into me, threading the fractured parts of myself back into place. I build the story one moment at a time; one family member at a time. Collecting spirits together in a bottle jar. I tried to fit as many of them as I could in each flower glass. I spent as much time as I could with the people who held me close. I sank into these moments, like warm mud bath.

Intimacy is earned. We must hold it as fragile, something that can wilt, that can shift towards another sunny spot. My garden of roses was in someone else’s palm. I held the pedals left behind close, clinging to a fleeting scent of memory. I had to build back my own patch of earth to bloom. Multiple exposures are layered together in camera, creating a patchwork of feelings. I wanted to create images that had an extravagance to them; vibrant landscapes, rich with significance to symbolize how momentous this moment in my life is.
