Huge crowds had gathered on a grey, overcast afternoon along the River Thames for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee river pageant. It was the first Sunday in June and people had hoped for fine weather. But a torrent of rain turned the event into a near wash out. London is about to be the focus of the world's attention with the Olympics, and it has been the wettest summer here ever. A very British summer indeed.
