A “castell” is a human tower built traditionally in festivals at many locations in Catalonia, Spain. At these festivals, several “colles” or teams build and dismantle a human tower’s structure. For its success, a crowded and stunning base of dozens of people needs to be previously perfectly set up. Therefore, the space in between of “castells” becomes almost an utopia. For more than 200 years “castells” have become one of the most important cultural traditions in Catalonia. On 2010, “castells” were declared by UNESCO to be amongst the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
