This series explores the myriad cultural, tribal, and religious mythologies and beliefs about life and the afterlife. The images are intended to evoke age-old questions about what lies beyond in the afterworld. They also examine how the meaning we give to these beliefs profoundly influences our lives. Auspicious symbols of animals and artifacts are an integral part of my work. My photographs allude to their use to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune or to help a soul travel safely to the other side. On my own spiritual journey, I ponder the fantastical stories the religions present and think about the countless lives lost over their differences. My hope is for a more tolerant and peaceful future.
