A devoted mother -Nadka, 36, who spend her early years in an orphanage, lives with her 5 children in a hulk located in the central part of the city of Ruse, Bulgaria.(Since 2007 the country is a full member of the European Union.) Neither water nor sanitary facilities are provided. Every now and then (since it is an act of charity and depends on whoever is keeping watch) she can secure 30 Liters of water for her family from a nearby nursing home.
When she first became pregnant at the age of 16 under circumstances she does not want to talk about, Nadka was forced out of the orphanage into the ruins and there she is 16 years later.
From the state she receives a total of - apprx. 125 Euro- in a country where prices are almost equal to the European average.
If she does not improve the family's standard of life shortly, say representatives of the Bulgarian government, they will take her children away and will put them into an orphanage (where they will probably also get pregnant at the age of 16 -or even worse- and close this way the vicious circle.)
At the same time the Bulgarian government claims to have spent some 60% of the country's budget on social activities. In light of the rapid decrease of birth rate in Bulgaria, campaigns for “more Bulgarians for Bulgaria take place all around the county.
