This image captures the tap dancers of the 30's and 40's, The Nicholas Brothers. Through the regimented format of a grid, the work traces the grace and movement of what Fred Astaire called the greatest dance sequence ever filmed. The brother’s dance is the subject of the piece, but then so is time. I have shot, with my iPhone, the brother’s extraordinary pas de deux, all leaps and bounds, splits and shuffles, while making manifest the time it takes to look, from one square to the next. I find that I have captured the passing seconds as well.
