Laj Chimel is a small Mayan village in the highlands of Guatemala and the birthplace of nobel laureate Rigoberta Menchu. The inhabitants suffered greatly at the hands of the army during the civil war in Guatemala and all fled to the forest at one point. The villagers have since re-built their lives and village despite many obstacles and hardships.
