During a very long family trip to Mexico in 2014, my mother suggested my sister and I do a personal photographic project instead of doing homework. I chose to photograph images of the ‘Virgin of Guadelupe’ – the patron of Mexico, and my sister did Volkswagon Beetles. These things were new and interesting to us and seemed uniquely Mexican. I was 14 when I took these photos and both our projects were published into a book called Beetles/Virgins.
